It seems the answer is "as low as possible" when it comes to one particular anti greyhound racing person!
When setting up a pro-racing website, I was always aware that I would not be popular with those who are anti greyhound racing and was advised I should be careful of these people. I have had e-mail correspondence with a person running one of the anti sites who objected to some of the content on my site and who questioned my love for the greyhound. However, this correspondence was always respectful and we had to conclude that we would never agree. Indeed, I have to admit that I think I share a lot of beliefs with the antis in that I think greyhound welfare is the most important aspect of the sport, as do the vast majority of people involved in the sport, despite the propoganda published by these anti-racing groups. What I didn't expect (maybe I was a little naive!) was to be targeted by one particular anti who felt it was acceptable to constantly use the contact us page to send abusive messages. This person, who has never met me, decided it was acceptable to send written threats, presumably in the hope that I would remove the website. Here are a few examples of the messages he has sent me: Hey Curly, don't you think it a bit strange that with all the atrocities unearthed relating to greyhound racing, your Hall of Shame is empty. Love greyhounds? don't make me laugh. Put into You Tubes search box: ***** and have a laugh at *** Expence. Iv'e decided to make you famous next. Nothing in your hall of shame,tut, tut, tut, don't worry though, you soon will be. Arsehole, with so many atrocities perpetrated on the greyhound, how come your hall of shame is empty. What a self efacing moron you must be. BTW, your full particulars have now been posted on facebook as a enemy of the greyhound. Have a nice day. Still covering up the abuse of greyhounds I see. What sick bastards you are to pretend you care.. As visitors to the Hall of Shame page will have seen, the names were removed due to my outrage at the drug testing procedure used by the GBGB, and people "guilty" of drug test failures were most of the cases on there. However, as stated on the page, the intention has always been to put the page back once we have finished discussing the drug testing procedure with the GBGB. This person sending me the abuse has always provided a false e-mail address when contacting me, so didn't even have the courage to enter into reasonable discussion - typical of a true keyboard warrior. Since starting to receive these abusive messages I have discovered several other people in the pro-racing world have also been receiving abuse, many including threats to either their person or their livelihoods. Even worse, this appears to have been going on for quite some time! If anybody else has been receiving similar abuse, please contact me with examples which I can add to mine and pass to the relevant authorities in the hope they might take some action. UPDATE: In mid-November 2010, 66 year old Bryan Leach was interviewed by Colchester police and admitted targetting pro-racing people for abuse. As a result of his age and previous good character, Leach was given a caution for his offences and we hope this will bring an end to the whole affair. We thank the police for their efforts in ensuring justice and hope this sends a clear message to others who think it is acceptable to act outside the law. |
